Lightning Bolts were developed to replace threaded fasteners in applications where quick installation and removal times are required. They also offer several other advantages such as no alignment or threading issues since ZipNut® collapsible thread technology is utilized. Threaded segments are collapsed in the installer's hand by simply squeezing the bolt in your hand (double-action of pulling and pressing against the palm of your hand). This will allow the bolt to be installed or removed quickly. Once the threaded segments are fully extended, they are locked into place and the bolt can be tightened or loosened as desired.

As shown in the video above, we developed an aluminum Lightning Bolt for Westinghouse Steam Generators primary manway shield doors, protection plates, and remote tooling. The area where this equipment is installed is considered a high radiation area and the time saved using Lightning Bolts equals personnel exposure savings.

We also offer these bolts for Babcock & Wilcox, Combustion Engineering, and other steam generators. We can manufacture virtually any size bolt out of any material. If we don't have the size you are looking for in stock, we can make them!
