The effectiveness with which employees and contractors
make decisions promotes the success (or failure) of a refueling outage. By providing
the ability to share real-time, accurate information between outage resources and
plant personnel you can dramatically enhance productivity, as well as greatly reduce
the possibility for human error.
Your staff must make critical split-second decisions, often on-the-fly during your
refueling outages. Yet, these decisions are only as good as the information that’s
available at that moment. Traditionally, communications channels in work areas during
a nuclear power plant outage consists of telephone communication (if available)
or an in-plant paging system. Both are hit-and-miss at best. How good are your communication
channels during an outage?
Radium, Inc., a technology company and Certified Wireless Network Provider, offers
services and products that improves worker productivity and safety and quality of
work in the nuclear power industry. We’re pleased to announce the introduction of
its n-Sight software and wireless network solution that will revolutionize the way
power plants handle outage work activities by providing real-time task and activity
tracking -- including voice and data communications – virtually anywhere where outage
work is being performed.

The n-Sight Communication System.
The n-Sight Communication System offers revolutionary functionality that you can
use to track outage activities – anytime, anywhere. Web-based, the n-Sight Communication
System can be accessed from any computer connected to the n-Sight local network.
Get outage activity progress information that you need by using a variety of available
filters including: 1) task updated times, 2) task type (i.e., Quality Assurance
Hold, Lock Out/Tag Out, Level Indication, etc.), and 3) task status changes (i.e.,
On Hold, Awaiting Support, Not Completed or Completed).
Real-Time Tracking.
Simple to use, you can set up multiple “watch” windows for real-time
monitoring of multiple activities. Graphical progress bars let you know in an instant
the status of an activity. Workers can view and send pictures and drawings to the
n-Sight database; these images can be viewed immediately by anyone on the n-Sight
network. Local Intranet instant messaging and email services are available for all
n-Sight users. We can even setup wireless n-Sight kiosks in high-traffic areas for
those workers that do not have a computer connected to the company’s Intranet. Track
activity tasks using Radium’s Pocket PC version of n-Sight which uses the latest
Microsoft® Windows® Mobile technology. Check the status of ongoing field work by
simply synchronizing the Pocket PC n-Sight database with the n-Sight database to
ensure that information is up-to-date.
Security Cameras.
Radium recognizes that now more than ever, it’s critical to deploy cameras in areas
where work is being performed or where there are safety concerns. We can deploy
network color PTZ cameras that transmit live video to the n-Sight application via
the n-Sight network. View several plant areas simultaneously via live video feed
while reviewing real-time data with voice communications capability.
State-of-the-Art Network Technology.
Reliable and secure, the n-Sight Network uses mesh technology consisting of a series
of “nodes” each of which can provide access to n-Sight Pocket PC users. Wireless
mesh networks offer flexibility and can be deployed quickly.
